SpaceX plans in Vermilion Parish have revived a decades-old Lafayette debate over whether Acadiana needs a loop, the I-49 Connector, or both.

Lafayette needs/will need a loop. Build a loop with tolls and it
            will pay for itself.

SpaceX’s plans for a new spaceport in Vermilion Parish could bring new opportunities for tourism and economic growth, while local tourism leaders say preserving the area’s unique culture and traditions remains a priority.

"That's not how we do things here" or so I've heard

Hopefully that changes. Major infrastructure upgrades are needed badly

I don’t know how Lafayette MSA will catch up to Baton Rouge. Their MSA is approaching a million while we are at 500,000 soon to be 600,000

Noticed the resurrection of the Lafayette outer loop commission. Believe years ago conversations for the western leg of the proposed freeway were intersecting with I-10 just east of Duson and head south using the Hwy 343 corridor. Concievebly, the freeway could continue into Vermilion Parish towards Meaux then veer westerly towards Kaplan tying into Hwy 35 just south of Kaplan. This Hwy 343 route is about 2 miles longer to Hwy 35 just south of Kaplan than hitting I-10 due north near Rayne/Crowley area, but its much nearer to major population centers.

Based on how highway constructions projects take place here in Louisiana, Musk will have people living on the moon before the I-49 connector is done and on Mars before any loop is complete!
