This will be the biggest "Cajun Land" reclamation project since the Acadians (Cajuns) in Nova Scotia constructed dykes to control tidal waters and convert wetlands into arable land.

This post and the one above nailed it. This is UL's opportunity to EXPLODE! The impact will be not only be to our engineering department, but to the whole University... the city of Lafayette, the region, and the State. We now have the chance to reverse our loss of population by keeping the upcoming generations from having to move away for needed employment opportunities.

The collective financial impact will be transformative.

I want greater Lafayette to follow Huntsville, Alabama’s model. The town has per capita the most engineering degrees which helped land them other major diversified big industrial projects. It is also the home of the space center etc. They also rank top 5 for most livable cities in US. The space program boomed there thus developing the city.

Vermilion Parish Police Jury President Chad Vallo said he first heard about potential SpaceX plans through rumors before formal talks began.

ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- SpaceX operations near Pecan Island are expected to bring an economic boost to the region, though local residents and officials are raising concerns about the potential impact on surrounding wildlife and natural habitats. The project involves land that has remained untouched for a long period, prompting questions about the future of [...]

I’m hearing a huge joint announcement coming next week between SpaceX, Gov Landry and the UL athletic department. A great day to be a Ragin Cajun! This weekend will be awesome.

Hey, if true, it would be incredible. UL needs to capitalize on this, and I think we have the President to do it.

That was proposed in the 1970's. SpaceX may make it a viable option now. Port of Vermilion and Intracoastal City can benefit greatly from the presence of SpaceX.

My fishing with Norton Sand Eels above aside, this would be awesome if it happened.
