post 194Our apparent lack of success with transfer portal in my opinion tells us plenty about the state of the program. We will be a shell of what we use to be as long as this staff is in place. Keeping the status quo from this past season will not cut it. I just believe Habetz is on over her head.👍 1Comment

My point is the Cajuns need Favors to be good, her freshman year wasn't good. Hopefully UL is where she gets on track. I have been pretty clear in all my post stating this.Comment

Two numbers in Favors stat line from last year really concern me. Hitters batted .353 against her and she walked 15 in 17 innings. Those numbers produced a really, really bad WHIP of 2.29. Like everyone else, I hope these numbers are anomalous and she is great next season.
To be very clear, that is a hope, but sadly it is not an expectation.
By way of comparison, the worst WHIP on our staff last year was 2.15, the highest batting average against was .286.Comment

Even if Favors turns into an all-American next season, the team still needs more quality pitching depth. Hopefully, some more portal additions will be announced this week. Two numbers in Favors stat line from last year really concern me. Hitters batted .353 against her, and she walked 15 in 17 innings. If you remove Boston U game, the Queens game, the Clemson game and the Florida game where she was rocked her numbers were very good, not good, very good. Here is the problem, she pitched in a 6-2 win over Boston where she only pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up 1 hit, 3 walks and 2 runs, that was only her second ever college game. Against Queens she pitched 1 inning and gave up 3 hits, 1 walk and 2 runs, vs Clemson she gave up 3 hits and 1 run in 1/3 of an inning and vs Florida she gave up 4 hits, 2 walks and 5 runs in 1 inning. Outside of that she gave up only 3 earned runs in her other 9 appearances. Including some games where she got hit but came out unscaved. Vs SBC teams (Coastal and GSU) she pitched 2 innings giving up 3 hits 1 run, but it was unearned. Some of those games were against teams like, Texas, Coastal, LSU and Missouri amongst others.Comment

If you remove bad games from every pitcher's stats, their numbers will be better. Dave, that's a weak comparison.

I believe fans were hoping for more of an immediate impact player who is proven and has experience. This team needs players ready from day one, they can't afford on-the-job training.Comment

my point is that in 9 games she was very good, 4 games she was not, including that Florida game where she was shelled. She had more good games than bad, again, not saying she is the second coming, just saying as a true freshman playing in the SEC against some really good competition, she showed what she can do most of the time. I have confidence that she will be a solid pitcher for us, do I think she comes in and is our #1 starter, no. But will she pitch significant and meaningful innings and be good, yes. My hope is that she builds into a top line starter by the time she leaves here.
I am still trying to figure out how a pitcher that went 22-1 with a 0.77 Era as a HS senior was, as you stated not so good after her 12U - 16U campaigns. And I assume you were speaking about a travel ball coach, where we cannot see those stats from those years, but based on her HS numbers against what I assume is good competition. Also based on the fact that she was an All American on her travel team that same season. How could she be figured out when she was great in her last year in HS and her last year playing travel ball, I think someone is mistaken.Comment
