Orientation doesn’t have to turn into a debate. Just present the identity confidently and let repetition do the work. The more students see it, the more it sticks.

It may have taken 26 years to get here, but if we want to move to the next level, we do need to start shifting from relying on “Ragin’ Cajuns” for everything and move toward a stronger UL/Louisiana identity.

That’s just my perspective. The more it’s shown, the more it becomes the norm. And this logo works academically just as well as athletically.

i mean i live in a area that we get UL-Lafayette to dearh, i get it i will not sit here and tell them what to call us. In there mind thats who we are. So you change it through branding.

University is partly to blame for this, we cant be scared of our shadow.
The problem is that athletics uses UL and LOUISIANA while academics (including the Alumni Association) uses UL Lafayette and sometimes ULL. Until that changes, the mixed messages continue. There are so many universities that use their athletic name for ALL references and not their legal name. Examples are:
Fresno State - Cal State Fresno; Texas - UT Austin; North Carolina - UNC Chapel Hill; Nevada - UN Reno; Tennessee - UT, Knoxville; Minnesota - UM Twin Cities; Georgia Tech - Georgia Institute of Technology; etc., etc.
Our new President needs to take a bold step and start referencing us as LOUISIANA academically and see what happens. Since we are using UL and LOUISIANA athletically and getting away with it, who is to say we won't academically as well. Just maybe after all these years and with a UL alum as governor, if this comes to a head politically, we can move to drop the Lafayette. Unless and until we hear something otherwise, continue with UL and LOUISIANA academically and athletically.

Regarding a new logo, for the record, my preferences are for both script Louisiana and the UL hat logo and script Ragin Cajuns to replace the old, outdated block Click image for larger version

I agree we need to stick with this type of symbol athletically as well as academically; I get why you would used UL-Lafayette academically, but I think a symbol like this reinforces the UL, Louisiana identity both athletically and academically !!! Either one of these is fine with me.

Could you imagine!!! Man the University is totally missing out on these! If they used anyone of these as Alternates to me would be game changer! The reds to me are incredible

Another thing the university can do is NOT have the band uniform have UL Lafayette on its sleeves. Be consistent with athletic logos. And, change the name of the band from the Pride of Acadiana to the Pride of Louisiana. Not sure why the baseball caps have the Acadiana flag on them. Yes, we are located in Acadiana. But, as the University of Louisiana, we represent the whole state and not just the Acadiana area.

I actually like the Acadiana flag on the hats, it is small and inconspicuous and gives us some individuality. To me it reminds me of the V on the Fresno football helmets, for someone from outside the area it would make me want to find out what that is about. I agree with the UL Lafayette on the band uniforms, and I am also with you on the Pride of Louisiana.

I agree with you to a point, but I think the Acadiana flag deserves a little more credit. The University played a major role in creating and promoting that flag, and it symbolizes the heart of Cajun culture the region where Cajuns settled, built communities, and preserved their traditions.

It’s not just a regional marker; it’s a cultural emblem. When it shows up on baseball caps or band uniforms, it’s highlighting the heritage that makes the University of Louisiana unique. Yes, we represent the whole state, but our cultural foundation is undeniably rooted in Acadiana, and the flag reflects that history.

That flag represents Cajun more then the FDL, i look at it as a Cajun logo. If we looking for a symbol, Like Crimson Tide ( Elephant) Razorback, Warhawk, Bulldog, Tiger.

Well ours is not so clear. We do not have an animal we have a culture, and those symbols represent Cajun and its influences.

Agree 100%, here is a quick google search and what comes up from copilot.

                    Copilot Search Branding

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s baseball caps typically feature the Louisiana Acadian flag on one side, alongside the team’s Ragin’ Cajuns branding and logo Forumeus.

This design is part of the team’s official gear, often worn by players and available through the university’s merchandise stores and online retailers. The Acadian flag — a red, white, and blue banner with a white star and the words “Louisiana” in French — is a symbol of the state’s heritage and is prominently displayed on caps to connect with local pride

University has a vested interest in keeping "University of Louisiana at Lafayette" alive while "Louisiana" is generic and can't be a trademarked revenue stream. Heck, Texas has no problem selling burnt orange shirts with soley Texas on them. Time to get the color vermilion right, customized, legally protected and quit the cheap route "standard red".

I appreciate that, and I’m glad the explanation made sense. Just to be transparent, I did reach out to the university directly.

At the end of the day, I don’t think they will adopt any of these designs or changes that are discussed I just enjoy exploring ideas and putting them out there for discussion. If it sparks conversation or gives people something to think about, that’s good enough for me.

This picture right here sums up my point exactly. The University continues to ignore the issue. Every other university even the smallest ones has a distinct symbol or logo that represents their identity. That’s why we’ll never truly claim the name “Louisiana” and will always be called UL Lafayette by outsiders.

It doesn’t have to be this exact logo; if they have something better, great. The point is, we created one that works both academically and athletically. Yet instead of embracing it, we keep circling back and honestly, I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

I have never seen that logo in any representation of our university. If you go to www.louisiana.edu you will not find that particular one anywhere on the website. I think that website might be taking some liberties with our logo.
