Second-inning home runs from Owen Galt and Lee Amedee helped fuel a four-run frame, and Louisiana put the game away with a six-run fourth in claiming a 12-3 victory over App State to claim the Sun Belt Conference series between the schools on Sunday at Smith Stadium.
Ty Roman (3-4) struck out six batters in 5.2 innings in earning his first victory on the mound since March 24 as Louisiana (32-20, 14-13 SBC) moved into sole possession of sixth place in the SBC standings – one game ahead of Texas State, Old Dominion and Marshall – heading into the final week of the regular season.
Drew Markle had three hits and drove in a pair of runs with a first-inning single with Blaze Rodriguez, Noah Lewis and Maddox Mandino each recording two hits in Louisiana's 14-hit attack.
Galt, in his third start of the season, picked up the first of two hits on the day when he drilled a 2-and-2 pitch from App State starter Tyler Nolan (4-1) over.
