I was not happy with forcing only one punt. I realize opposition had something to do with that. However the team knows they have to improve on point of getting off field on third/fourth down. If they do not, they will not reach their goals.

I agree. We almost seem to back off on 3rd down plays defensively and we are way too willing to let receivers catch a ball in hopes of making the tackle. USC was 11-15 on 3rd down. That is unacceptable and it was an issue for us last year too.

Sure, UL coach Michael Desormeaux and his Ragin' Cajuns wanted to knock off No. 14 USC on Saturday in Los Angeles.

But after reviewing the week of preparation and the game itself in tape, the UL coach saw a lot he liked.
"I thought we played with tremendous effort, physicality and play speed," said Desormeaux, whose Cajuns return home to meet UAB (1-1) at 7 p.m. Saturday. "We want that to be our trademark, so that's got to show up week after week."

Scout defenders mimic UAB's defensive schemes. A realistic look at what they'll face on game day is the goal. Scout players are often younger players, backups, redshirts, or players lower on the depth chart. Even though they may not play much on Saturdays, they're essential to preperation.

I knew that about scout teams, I just thought this was something different and these guys were being highlighted for something special. Maybe they were, maybe they stood out on the scout teams. I just had not seen them mentioned like this before.
