    Is SpaceX Coming to Louisiana

A space exploration company is negotiating to buy a large amount of coastal land in southwest Louisiana, a state lawmaker confirmed Thursday.

State Sen. Bob Hensgens, R-Abbeville, said he knows of two companies — he did not reveal if it is Elon Musk-owned SpaceX or Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin — that have reached out to landowners in coastal Vermilion and Cameron parishes about a possible acquisition.

Foote's at least a week late on this one. Though in his defense, he's a sports writer, so this isn't quite in his shop to be informing the community about.

A legislative committee on Monday will take up the final piece of the aerospace incentive package. The bill, by Rep. Jack MacFarland, R-Jonesboro, would shield aerospace companies from lawsuits related to harm or damages their rockets cause to people and properties.
That's some utter bull___. I understand trying to attract a new industry, but if they cause damage to people and their property, there absolutely should be a way for those folks to hold them liable.

Will just be a facility to build parts. Can't launch from there. It's access to the Gulf and proximity to Intracoastal is ideal. Imagine the amount of coastal restoration that will go into protecting the facility! I understand the short term impacts, but will be a win for Vermillion parish and if the University is smart a win for our Engineering department. Imagine being a partner with this type of company. We are doing it with First Solar, hopefully we see the same here if it comes to fruition.

Speculation is a 30' high protection levee would surround a potential aerospace facility situated south of the Freshwater Bayou Locks similar to what is built to protect the new LNG plants in lower Cameron by the coast. Launch pads there shouldn't be ruled out since launch capacity restrictions in Florida, Texas, and California could materialize. But like Sgt. Schultz said, "I know nothing".

I have been seeing SpaceX racks for many moons at Acadiana Contractors.

No idea if they are coming or going.

That’s great, and I hope it happens, but should a company cause real damage, they need to be held liable.

Launch facilities are highly unlikely inasmuch as the flight trajectory of launched missiles from a launch point in Vermilion Parish passes over land, and most particularly New Orleans, Mobile and other larger population centers east of Mobile. This has [so far] not been an acceptable practice in the US. The Pecan Island location is ideal for a manufacturing/R&D type facility for several reasons. First is ready access to the Intracoastal waterway, which allows for barge shipment of both raw materials and finished products. Second is the close proximity and ready availability of LNG, the fuel used by SpaceX rockets. Third is the fact that the likely destinations of rockets built at the PI facility are all located on the ICW, most particularly the Brownsville, TX, SpaceX launch facility and the Cape Canaveral, FL, launch facility.

The location is ideal for launching satellites into polar orbit, as well as for suborbital flights. The launch trajectory takes those flights southward over the Gulf of America.

So, if it is SpaceX, UL President and Athletics NEED to get in front of the Space X Ownership Team and work a $20m deal, half going to the relative course work, the other half to NIL in athletics..the presentation SHOULD NOT include local political buffoons.

Remember who owns SpaceX. If I were approaching him, I would start at a minimum of $200,000,000.
That amount is a generous, but modest, donation to request from a person whose net worth is in excess of $700,000,000,000.

Offer (UL owned) Pecan Island High School as an initial establishment hub for SpaceX.
