What about the UL facility in New Iberia? As I recall, it already has an airbase with a lot of room to build and is close to the gulf. I haven't heard anything about it other than the research facility, so maybe someone can comment on that.

Seems to me a delegation of AD Maggard joined with Monique Blanco, Brandon Shelvin and Craig Romero would be perfect to approach SpaceX.

Big problem on the island? This are called camps.

Side note, 130,000 acres is something like 14 miles by 14 miles.

No, but our local political baffoons, local or state should not be a part of any discussions concerning UL Academics or athletics....my point was local politicians can't solve or recognize Lafayettes homeless and pandering problem, if they can't find a simple solution for those issues, do they deserve to be a part of any UL/SpaceX conversations .

The research center doesn't have an airbase. It's located at the "Airbase" which is the former "Naval Air Station New Iberia". The main tenant at the airbase is AVEX which is expanding with a new hanger being built. Other companies are the usual oil names like Halliburton, Schlumberger, & Nabors to name a few. More companies are coming but they haven't been announced yet.

14 miles by 14 miles will probably have its own landing strip.

Could UL have been so forward thinking that they purchased Pecan Island School, knowing that this was happening in the future. I doubt it, but if we benefit from it, it could be nice.
