2026 Softball Offseason

If we get Burns, it would be awesome; I hope this happens. Hoover had some really good moments in 2026 so a staff of Burns, Hoover, and Favors would probably be your main three. But Mackles and the incoming freshman will help as well.

Liscano, Hart, Otto, Marceaux, Williams, Norwood, and hopefully a back-on-track Emily Smith as your returning base.

I kind of like the look of this team. Liscano, Hart, Otto, Marceaux, Norwood, and Williams all hit over .300, and we know what Smith is capable of, and that base would be returning 34 of your 45 HR's from this season.

I think Knox will improve upon her freshman numbers.

I've always been a softball guy; I do not have season tickets but previously made a ton of games with my now college daughter who played HS Softball and made probably 5 games last year with my 5-year-old. I would go to more if my daughter who is in college in Va Beach were still in Lafayette, hard to drag the littles on out all the time. But believe me, I watch and/or follow just about every game the Cajuns softball team plays.

I have much more hope for Knox than Manning. Both hit around .230 last year, but Knox had an OBP of .424, an OPS of .895, scored 20 runs and drove in 25 in 120 plate appearances. Manning's numbers were OBP .283, OPS .639, 17 runs and 10 RBI in 114 plate appearances.

She was a long shot to come to UL. UL isn't going to get anyone with proven D1 stats. Any player they get will be a project or potential type player. It all comes down to player development. Can the staff coach up the players they bring in from high school and the portal? That's the million dollar question. See the original post to this thread, I stated all this in priority #7. This should be the message for everyone. Athletes & Coaches: You have two choices. Get better or get replaced.

On the bright side Emily Smith is hitting .417, .491ob%, 10 hr, 18 rbi in 16 games. She is playing in the Texas collegiate summer league. Not sure how good the competition is as most of the players are portal players who didn't play much last season.
