If it’s any consolation, the Softball twitter/x posted that the coaches are traveling for recruiting purposes. They’re doing something at least. Just wished they utilize the portal more.

Southern Illinois has 4 players in the portal that could really help the Cajuns. Three of those are pitchers. A few of them are following the Cajuns coaching staff on social media.

Landing those four would pretty much fill all our needs except one power hitter; and the girl from Arkansas provides that.

SIU were runner-ups to Belmont in the MVC. The three pitchers in the portal all had ERA's under 2.8 and combined for 32 wins last year.

Just as an aside; no SBC team other than Louisiana Tech and South Alabama have committed and/or signed portal players so far this year. Tech has an OF with decent numbers, but from a weak conference , and a C who hit .211 last year at South Al. South Alabama has a pitcher who had a 3.89 ERA last year at UAB.

A total of 168 players have found new homes so far, out of the 931 shown on the D1 Softball Transfer Tracker. This does not count any D2, D3, NAIA or JUCO players.

So you think this is a good pickup? Did you even look at her stats? A freshman pitcher who appeared in 13 games and threw a total of 17 innings. In those 17 innings she gave up 24 hits, (including two home runs), 13 runs (10 earned) and walked 15.

Sorry, but, I'm just not seeing it. The biggest question is, can Kyle Brady coach her up? Looks like she has a long way to go to be considered a "good pick up".

I knew that comment was coming. Here's the sad truth. Statistics do not lie. It will be interesting to see if the Cajuns get what they paid for.

Our apparent lack of success with transfer portal in my opinion tells us plenty about the state of the program. We will be a shell of what we use to be as long as this staff is in place. Keeping the status quo from this past season will not cut it. I just believe Habetz is on over her head.

Based on below, yes I think she is pretty good.

Named the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) MVP the last three season … Over those three seasons she has also been named to the All-State team … Led the Makos to three straight AHSAA State Championships … In 2024, they finished the season ranked No. 1 in the final MaxPreps Top 25 rankings and crowned National Champions … In 2024, she went 22-1 in the circle, which ranks 11th all-time in AHSAA history for winning percentage … Recorded 15 shutouts with a 0.77 ERA and 197 strikeouts … During travel season, she plays for the Birmingham Thunderbolts, where she was named a 2023 All-American … Helped her team to the 2022 PGF Championship … Ranked 18th overall by Perfect Game in the 2025 class
