This story has nothing to do with the strip or all the other bars we all hit back in the day. But this thread got me thinking about a good story, so I'll share.
After moving back to Lafayette from Corpus Christi in a Jartran rental truck, I was hanging with friends at the apt complex off of Verot and Pinhook. Can't remember what it was called? Anyway, we had a large time the Friday night before, celebrating my return to Lafayette. The discussion that bright Saturday morning was about what we were going to do that day. We decided to order a keg of beer and set it up poolside. Great idea but then we figured out that we would be stuck at the pool until the keg ran dry. So, another great idea was offered up and we decided to move the keg in the back of the Jartran, which we later named the JamTrain. This way we could enjoy discounted suds anywhere we decided to go. Then, since the ideas were flowing, we decided to move some furniture into the van...a couple of sofas, coffee table, battery light and a hanging plant. Since I was responsible for the truck, I told my 4 friends that each time we moved from one place to another, we had to switch drivers because I figured this was likely to end up with a stop by the LPD. So, we took off hitting all our favorite spots, Gentry's, Poets, Judge Roy Bean's, Grant Street and a few others. We invited folks we met for a drink in the van. We rode around town with the back open and got lots of honks and waves along the way. Crazy time! So as we moved late into the night, the sharing of driving responsibilities went to the most sober of the group. But, toward the end of the night, after we decided to close the van door in the back to avoid the LPD stop, we noticed we moving at a high rate of speed. I looked at the people in the van and saw all of the designated drivers. We didn't know who was driving and after lifting the back door saw we are on I-10 heading east! We started beating on the cab telling whoever was driving to pull over, because there was no window between cab and the storage. Well, the guy driving was a complete stranger we met at one of our stops who was hitchhiking to NOLA. I guess he figured we wouldn't mind him taking us to NOLA. We got him to pull over at the Butte La Rose exit. Gave him a beer and we headed back to town.Comment

NiteCaps bladder bust back in the 90's were wild. There was some creative ways to empty the bladder without going to the bathroom!Comment

There wasn't much parking, so the strip was one place a lot of people parked away and walked to.

Anyone remember The Library? I believe that was what was later called the Caboose. The Keg back then sold more Budweiser beer than any bar in the country. Beer was $.25 for a 10 oz cup. I remember USL held a Budweiser pep rally with the cheerleaders on the roof of the Keg to a packed parking lot. That would have been in the late '60s. One year, USL was named the #1 Party School in the country. A few memories I hadn't thought about in years.Comment

Amos, your are pretty much correct. I still have a Schlitz pitcher today. So, that would make it 52 years old, meaning half way to being an antique! This special was only on Thursday nights, but we were actually able bring our Schlitz pitcher that we had previously purchased to get the "refill".
Also, Brass Rail was great for late, late night munchies. Of course you were about out of cash, so you would order a huge plate of French fries for a dollar. Unpealed and cut from fresh potatoes. Great for sharing while listening to some Allman Brothers, maybe Live at Fillmore East, who knows!
Brass Rail also did Bombay Sapphire for 50 cents on Friday afternoon, you know a primer for the evening!
