I remember it as Mothers Mantle. Today it is reopened as "Truth" . It still looks like a place where you can pick something up that you can't get rid of.

The Caboose and The McKinley st pub are the only 2 active spots on the strip these days. (I ride my bicycle through there at night sometimes)
Both seem to be home to the local metal scene

the strip died the moment that the 21 year old drinking age started being enforced unfortunately

Looks like a nice place for a quiet drink. Tons of interesting musical acts on their instagram.

I drove by the strip yesterday and it’s sad, for sure. Not that it was nice or anything when the bars were open. But it was a right of passage for UL students and fellow under 21s. Then you turned 21 and went downtown elsewhere.

I remember the Keg, the Cajun, Nitecaps, Shanahan’s, Makos, the loose caboose, McKinley St Pub all open down there. May have been others. It was a mess on the weekends, but good times were had.

Just keep the Bulldog forever. That was our go to. Just had to show up early before they checked IDs and get a drink at 16-17. Or double stamp.

Brings back a lot of memories and some hazy ones for obvious reasons. Spent a lot of time there in the early 80's.

David Allen Coe at his finest.... and probably more info than most want to know but if you helped them clean up they would let you have the left over hamburgers..... My immune system was fortified at the Caboose.....

Did it happen at the same time that ATC started cracking down on the strip? I was over 21 at that time

I bartended at the caboose in 89-90.
