Nico makes $650K without bonus. I think Maggard was around $400k without bonus. They would have to pony up some big bucks.
Nico Yantko, the Director of Athletics at Murray State University, would be a great hire for Louisiana! Yantko has served as Murray State’s athletic director since September 2022. Before returning to his alma mater, he was the Deputy Athletic Director at the University of Louisiana and previously held athletic administration roles at the University of Missouri and NC State.
We deserve visionary leadership, and I believe Nico is the right person to return as Athletic Director. Nico brings the intelligence, experience, energy, and passion needed to lead a successful athletic program. Beyond his impressive accomplishments, he has an outgoing personality that connects with student-athletes, coaches, alumni, donors, and fans alike. He understands what it takes to build relationships, inspire confidence, and move a program forward.
Leadership matters, and Nico has consistently demonstrated the character, professionalism, and vision that make great athletic departments thrive. I would be excited to see him return to Louisiana and continue building on the cULture.👍 1Comment

HC and OC hasn't worked out that great. Can't imagine adding AD to that, especially with no experience in athletics financing.Comment

Is he making more money at an FCS school that is his alma mater? Why on earth would he leave that? Shame on UL if those numbers are correct. We won't get any serious candidates if that is all we pay, except for internal ones getting a step up.Comment

My impression is this is a mutual parting. Time for fresh scenery for him and a fresh vision for us.Comment

I'm afraid most of you are correct. This is going to be done on the cheap and a bubba or a bubbaette will be selected. National search probably ending at the fence line of Cajun Field.
I cannot blame Maggard. He has been hamstrung since moving to MH. Career wise, he needed to move. Now "The Current" can blame a non local, rightfully or wrongly.
Speaking of cheap, I guess our alumni association laid off their proofreader. Anyone notice the cheerleader to the left next to Bo Lamar? We changed our mascot name to snujaC.Comment

We also had a national search for a basketball coach. That was after the softball hire. Ended up with a guy from New Orleans and Houston.Comment

I been rooting for this school for almost 50 years. I would Be SHOCKED if I was not disappointed. Not being TOO cynical when I say I would not be surprised if they either hired Frazier or heck, Des!Comment

There's no questioning the timing for Dr. Bryan Maggard ending his nine-year stint as UL's athletic director.

Please explain your “shame” comment. Note that UL has to HAVE more money to PAY more… and the news is that we did not / do not have more money.Comment
