Congratulations to Becky for beating the Cajuns for the first time in 11 years. Her 29-game losing streak to the Cajuns is now over. Becky, if I were you, I would go out tonight and celebrate until midnight.
I wonder if it feels like when we beat a 1 win USM football team in 2024. Yeah, we beat them for the first time in a long time, but that wasn’t a version of them that really brings joy.

Yep. Look it up. Last year, Bethany's era was 3.72. This year Hoover's is over four.

Now there is a caveat I did not mention. That's for pitchers who threw 30 innings or more. There were pitchers who threw less than 30 innings and had higher eras. However, because they showed little ability, they did not see many innings. That's because, most of the time, they were pitching with one or two pitchers on the team who had eras somewhere between 1.0 and 2.0 and sometimes below 1.0.

While I agree that pitching is a major issue for us; pitching did not lose the Virginia game, the first LSU game, the first JMU game, the last Marshall game or the game last night. Those games were lost because of failures at the plate, on the basepaths, on defense and in the coaching box. Further, the days of programs like ours having [or, more accurately, keeping] pitchers with sub 2 ERA are over unless or until the NIL/Portal mess is resolved. If we are going to win big games, we will have to do it by limiting errors on defense and building a roster of players who are clutch hitters in RBI situations.

Well. I made a mistake. I was thinking it was Bethany's era that was 3.72 last year. It was not. It was the team's era and it was 3.79 not 3.72. That is the highest team era in the history of the program. This year's team era sits at 3.85. So, there may be a new leader in the clubhouse by the time the season is over.

Bethany's era last year was 5.07. That is the highest era of any Cajun pitcher, ever. After today's game, Sage's era jumped to 4.25. That is the second highest.

I have heard coach Aly say in interviews, "it all starts in the circle." I agree with her.

We are simply not a good softball team on the road. It is like BI Polar. We play alot better at home.
