    The Grove vs The Swamp

Watching ESPN College Game Day at Ole Miss. The Grove looks great and is arguably the best tailgating environment in the P4.

UL had arguably the best tailgating environment in the G6 under HUD. We certainly lost that and need to regain that status. Who is going to excite the fan base like HUD did and turn this around?

In my mind it started with coach Bustle. He tailgated every game.

Maybe, but HUD is the one who excited the fan base and got the fans to tailgate that created the great tailgating experience. However, a lot of people wouldn't go into the stadium. Goes to what I have complained about for years that our in-stadium experience is greatly lacking and people would rather watch a P4 game (any game) on TV than sit in the stadium and watch a boring game. Our AD killed it with fees and, combined with the poor in-game experience, turned fans away.

Open tailgating again with no fees except maybe for suite owners who are also paying for parking closest to the stadium. We will generate more income from a packed stadium than from parking fees and we'll recreate the great tailgating experience. Then, PLEASE, address the in-stadium experience which is another subject all to itself.

Ole Miss does have paid spots in the Grove. There's an option to pay vendors to set up tents, too. It also opens the day before the game for people to claim the first come, first serve free spots. Sounds like a good model to follow.

I was encouraged to see the new UL president in the tailgate section and in the stands interacting with alum and fans. This is the first step to rebuilding the tg and fan base. Also the more we hear from people on social media the better the RR crew do a great job of putting the brand out there. Finally seeing Albineaux in the stadium with a line of kids to get pics with him and with a freshman taking up the role of Albineaux so that it will have some consistancy there. All of these are positives which will pay dividends
