MAC Going to Nine Conference Games in 2028

The Mid-American Conference announced it will move to a nine-game conference football schedule beginning with the 2028 season. The decision was approved by the MAC Council of Directors of Athletics.

The MAC cited continuously evolving conference scheduling models across the college football landscape. The change will provide each member institution with an additional conference matchup while preserving opportunities for non-conference competition.

Agree. It would be nice to play Coastal, Marshall, App St, or JMU every year or every other year.

Good for the MAC. The SBC should schedule 9 in conference games beginning in 2027. Play your conference! Maybe schedule an FCS only as a last resort to get six home games. Make games against FCS opponents more rare. And if the CFP expands to 24 the conference championship games may become a thing of the past. If so, then the conference champ is crowned soley based upon regular season play making the case for 9 conference games.

Outcome of 9 conference games is the top teams in the,conference will get an extra win while the record of the bottom tier teams will remain the same.

They will be punished come selection time though, due to not playing outside competition.
