“This possible project would diversify our economy. Our beloved oil and gas, farming and fishing, our ports along the Gulf and coastal waterways, Freshwater Bayou will all become vital corridors for rocket commerce. UL Lafayette, our public school system, regional universities will gain powerful new avenues,” Hensgens said.

I’m almost 100% positive that every National Guard lease is signed for $1 regardless of where it’s located.

If they want to sign a lease to use your property for training it would be for $1. It’s what they are allowed to do, if I remember correctly.

There have been persistent rumors about such an agreement for months, but now The Times-Picayune | The New Orleans Advocate reports that Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry is expected to announce the agreement later this month.

If UL was smart, I know it's a stretch, then it should be.

With all the rumors going around it hard to know what exactly are they proposing. Does anyone really know or is all of this speculation?

I have heard two different rumors, one has it being a site for polar orbit launches, the other has it being a design, manufacturing and maintenance and testing center for rocket tubes and engines.

Either, both or neither of those could be the case.

Well know more later this month if the reporting is accurate. If it does happen, regardless if they launch or mfg rockets, it will be a huge boost to the economy of Acadiana. Once up and running, UL should see a boost in enrollment as well.

Both is the most accurate answer here, if all goes as planned.

I really hope our university “leadership” is constantly hitting up SpaceX for some sort of partnership, similar to LSU with the petrochem plants and refineries and McNeese with the LNG companies in Cameron/Calcasieu. More than just emailing a PowerPoint too.
