Lunch was very efficient passing completing 15/21 (71.4%) and 189 yards (9 yards per attempt), even with those two INTs. We know he's not a QB that can beat teams solely with his arm, like we saw with Gauthier and pre-injury Broadway, but if he can stay healthy for him to be able to use his legs and running ability all season, we absolutely have a shot in every single game, except probably next weekend.

Now...if he gets dinged up along the way, and he's limited to mostly his arm, or worse if we have to start Beale a couple games, our defense will need to play like the '85 Bears.

That is a mind boggling statistic when you consider he started the game 1 of 4 (25%) three incompletions and then went on to have only 1 incompletion the rest of the game.

Four incompletions total. Two interceptions, one was a fluke.

After the rough start Lunch was on fire 16 of 17 did not touch the ground.

curious about the severity of 0’s injury. The freshman looked really good last night and would be a shame if he’s out an extended period of time.

Good week one tune up. Running game stands out. Hope Smith bounces back from injury.

In this day and age of the no-sit transfer portal, programs like ours are going to find it much more difficult to have a #2 QB that we feel comfortable with. You have a guy who is good sitting at #2 possibly having to wait more than a year to get into that #1 role, and another G6 program, or even FCS, offers him to transfer over and be their #1, he's likely to take that shot now. It's just the way it is.

I like Carter as our no.2. He can run it and has better arm talent than Winfield. Beale has better arm talent than Winfield too, but not the wheels. Winfield struggled last night throwing the ball with the wet conditions, but at the end of the day he's more lethal running it than throwing it. We'll be in games where he'll be running the ball a lot and that's worrying to the staff.

I've been as critical as any on here about Beale but his throw was not necessarily careless. That was a set play, not a read. The DB just read it and jumped it perfectly.

I thought the issue was play calling by Dez?
