    Professionalized Athletes

Sun Belt won’t allow “athletes who have professionalized themselves” to compete.

How does this affect the Russian basketball player we recently signed.

      Good question.

I can see a challenge where the athlete might say ...'the NCAA forced me to "professionalize" only to recend the rule. It's not my fault.'

To a degree NIL athletes have already been "professionalized"

The SEC rule does not mention European players. It restricts guys with contacts in the NBA, NFL, and WNBA. I don't know details of the SBC ruling. Wonder if this prevents Lee Amedee from returning. He played pro ball but in an independent league, not with associated with MLB.

Just thought of a couple of other points concerning our Russian basketball player.
First of all there is not a true HS athletic system comparable to the US there. Most young athletes there perform in some type of pay system. Also, he has never played college ball before. That is different that someone who played college ball, played pro ball, and tries to return to college ball.

              Those are key differences Mike
