I just caught a little bit of a banana ball game. The people that wrote the rules must have been drunk or on crack. I guess it's all in fun and there is money to be made...

Money to be made? That's an understatement. This year they sold out Neyland Stadium. 100,000 in attendance. Another venue, they had 90,000 fans and two more with 80,000 fans. They sell out wherever they go.
The guy with the yellow tuxedo and yellow top hat is the guy who started it 10 years ago. The games were played at high school baseball fields. There's a chance he sells it next year for one billion dollars👍 1 -

I also like that the teams get added points for trick plays in the field. In yesterday's game a batter hit the ball into left-center field. One of the outfielders tipped the ball up off his glove and one of the other outfielders came over and caught the ball in his hat and it was scored as a double trick play!
BTW, they were playing yesterday's game in Boise State's football stadium with the blue "smurf turf", and it was covered on ESPN2.Comment

I wonder what would happen if our administration worked like there was money to be made out there.Comment

Check this out - they're sold out nearly two months in advance. These games are being played in COORS FIELD, BUSCH STADIUM, GILETTE STADIUM (Home of the New England Patriots):
Here's their story:
"In October of 2015, we first arrived in Savannah as a college summer team with a goal in mind: make baseball fun and bring fans back to Historic Grayson Stadium.
For the first time, minor league baseball had left the city of Savannah after calling it home for 90 years. Because of this, we started to realize that getting fans excited for a college summer team was going to be harder than we ever could have imagined.
In our first few months, we sold only a handful of tickets. By January of 2016, just months before our first game, the team had over-drafted our bank account. Our owners, Jesse and Emily Cole, were forced to sell their home to keep the team and their dream going.
But on February 25, 2016 when we announced the team name as the “Savannah Bananas”… everything changed.
This announcement created massive attention locally and nationally, being covered by CBS, NBC, and Sports Illustrated, even being featured as SportsCenter’s “Logo of the Year”.
Despite all the attention, the team name was not liked or appreciated by most people in Savannah. We heard comments like “the owner should be thrown out of town” and “you’ll never sell a ticket.”
However, even with mixed reviews, we were finally on the map and people knew who we were.
With all the buzz, we were able to sell out Opening Night. Our fans were met with a completely unique experience including all-inclusive food, a senior citizen dance team, the first Banana Baby, and dancing baseball players.
Since our first season, we’ve sold out every single game.. From NFL and MLB stadiums across the country to our beloved Grayson Stadium, every stop reminds us where it all started."

There was a doubleheader that weekend and Drew Brees went out with them on Sunday for the "halftime show". Went with my folks that Saturday and Tyler Shough had made an appearance. It was a great time and tickets were reasonably priced, paid $40/ticket for seats along the first base line.👍 1Comment
