Who’s Next? A Look at Potential Candidates to Lead Louisiana Athletics

The Bryan Maggard era at Louisiana is officially over.

After nearly a decade in Lafayette, Maggard accepted a position as Deputy Athletics Director and Chief Operating Officer at Missouri. Louisiana has named Trey Frazier as interim athletic director while preparing to conduct a national search for the next person to lead the department.

And make no mistake about it: this is a big one.

McClelland has just been hired as Purdue’s AD. The dude is now in charge of a P4 program.

Good chance if they are local then they are connected.

Without question, the three best AD's UL has ever had were Terry Don Phillips, Brian Maggard and Scott Farmer. What do they all have in common?? Zero local or UL ties before they were hired.

I would have left the Ol' Swim Coach off that list.

I didn't say he was good; just better than every other one we've had other than Phillips and Maggard. The bar here was very low.

The bar? Yeah Farmer did like the Corner Bar allegedly 😂

Farmer and Maggard both oversaw some substantial facility upgrades. (Although Farmer did have some complications dealing with the Tigue)

Hopefully our next AD can finish the job on the Cajun Field east side

We could say LSU "McNeesed" itself. Hired MSU's President to lead the university and MSU's successful ex-basketball coach (although former LSU coach). Does UL dip into the ranks of an FCS university or an assistant AD at a P4 or even G6 school for an AD? It will be interesting to see who applies, especially given the university's recent (inherited) fiscal issues.

Oh, the LC bunch would munch a t*rd if LSU told them to. They've been raided so many times by Louisiana State AND they're good with the idea. Even SELLING tickets to a preseason MBB scrimmage with LSU. Still a WW love fest going even though he is now an opponent. Kinda like Peter Griffin/Lois/KISS dynamic. IYK,YK.

VO is right about the three best ADs we have had. Maggard and Farmer both had the same fault, overstayed. TDP came, got the FB program where everyone wanted, left before the locals got jaded about whatever.

Hey, as much as I want another outsider, I expect a USL hire, someone with an inner circle already in place.

AND RR brought up a good point. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE ALDEN REPORT!?!?!?!

Find an AD who has had success with limited resources.
