He had to deal with covid, that of course happened during our best football years ever, he had to deal with the sudden death of a legendary coach, he had to navigate the lotief fiasco, he had the death of an assistant and new coaches daughter that replaced lotief and usher in the transfer portal and NIL era, got a new stadium built and did all that while being broke. He had to replace 2 highly successful coaches for 2 very different extraordinary circumstances.

Well, death is very unfortunate in any circumstance, but dealing with it is really neither a positive or negative. Every FBS University in the country has had to deal with the portal and NIL. He did get the Stadium done, and that's certainly a positive. We are poor, partially due to him. He did not grow the fan base, in fact his decisions cost us fans. Replacing successful coaches is his job, he didn't do very well with that.Comment

So Napier and Badon aren't better than who they replaced?"

Deaths aside, every AD in the country had to deal with covid, NIL, and all the changes in today's college sports today. He is no different in that regard. He was a complete fail at growing revenue and fan support especially after the SBC Football Championship. That growth opportunity was badly missed. He was late in getting into the how's of NIL.
He's made questionable hires based on some current cosches performance. It always seemed the athletic department was a step slow addressing the numerous issues. I still can't believe he was paid nearly a half mill a year....in the end, he wasn't worth half that based on the last 3 year performance. Yep, he did oversee the CF improvements, then fails to find a way to increase attendance and enhance the game day atmosphere on Saturdays. Not to mention nothing in OLOL stadium to honor the football championship season.Comment

Here is what I know for a fact. He left to be closer to family as others have said. Daughters and grandchild are in Kansas City. In no way was he pushed out. Did our circumstances play into his departure? No confirmation on that but you would be a fool to not think it was.
Here is another fact. Many who post on this board are posers. They claim to be big time donors etc. and will be pulling funds. Reality is they ain't.
We are tremendously better post Maggard than before and that is a cold hard fact.
EVERY University in this state is struggling. Even the great TSAB has huge financial problems.
It's not good and for those that think Maggard being gone is some kind of positive are delusional.

Did every AD deal with covid simultaneously as the 2 best years of a historically bad program? Think of the luck that those 2 things happened at the same time? It made it exponentially harder to capitalize when people had to sit 6 feet apart to witness that and half the people were scared to go. Then we get a 10 win season and host a championship in half a stadium. Did he have shortfalls? Of course, but the people who sit here and act like he didn’t accomplish a lot here in a very strange time period are just flat out wrong. As I said, I think people will see how wrong they are about him very soon. It’s always easy to question hires in hind sight. AD’s with unlimited and fully open check books make questionable hires all the time, not sure why he would be immune given our limitations.Deaths aside, every AD in the country had to deal with covid, NIL, and all the changes in today's college sports today. If Trey becomes permanent AD it will be the new presidents first athletic move and show his lack of care for the athletic department.Comment

Assuming with all the budget issues and financial crisis the university is in, the East side of CF and new scoreboard will get delayed or not done at all?Let's recall Dr. Maggard was big upgrade over Scott Farmer. No AD bats 1000 on coaching hires. Napier, Deggs, Badon, & Glasco were positive. Promoting Desormeaux and hanging onto Marlin so long were total head scratchers. Giving them both expensive extensions were outright harmful. Too soon to say how Coaches White & Habetz will turn out as both face pivotal years next season. Maggard getting the football stadium done was massive. Regardless of the tight budgets next AD must publicy layout vision for the athletic department. There remains opportunities to improve.Comment

The stadium was more than half full for the conference game. It should have been full though.
