    Lunch

Most UL football fans would tell you the most important thing about the 2026 season for the Ragin' Cajuns is the health of quarterback Lunch Winfield.

During each of Michael Desormeaux's first four seasons as head coach, the Cajuns have needed three quarterbacks to get through each season.

For four seasons, there's always been that thought of how much more could have been achieved if the starter stayed healthy.

Most important position on the field. Mike knows it, Lunch knows it. Time to make it happen. Everybody a little tired of mediocrity. NO DROPS.

True, BUT, what makes Lunch Lunch is his ability to run, and break tackles and run over people. Dude has to play half QB half RB. Maybe he'll be as durable as Tommie Frazier or Tebow, but we don't know. If this is the style of play that works best for the offense to succeed under Coach Dez, and I think it is watching Wooldridge and Zeon play, then we should heavily recruit these types of QBs. I know everyone loved Chandler Fields, and he had a heck of an arm and was a diehard Ragin Cajuns, but small pocket passer is probably the type of athlete we shouldn't recruit anymore unless our offensive scheme succeeds with that type of game plan, and it really hasn't under Dez.

Lunch is going to get dinged from time to time. It's inevitable. We need someone with like skills to be able to come in and run the same system. If we have to change the system because of the new QB coming in to relieve him for a series or for a couple games, I don't think that will work in our favor.

Coleman Carter, redshirt freshman from Mississippi, has a similar skill set to Lunch. In fact, from what I saw in the spring game, he is more of a natural passer than Lunch. I expect him to eventually be the back up.

I was told by a coach last August that Coleman may have the best arm talent on the squad, and that's when WH was going to be the starter. He also can run it, quite well. Check his HS highlights on 247 sports site. If he has to replace Lunch, they can keep the same game plan/offense.

This OL better step up and we better have some backs step up as well. Lunch is gonna be good for, in most games, a max of about 200 yards passing so we better have other guys stepping up along with the defense or it will be a long season.

I don't think it matters. I don't think he will be the backup but its early

Met his ol' lady at the V&W game. I told her if he's as good as the hype surrounding him he'll fill this stadium. She says he's bad ass b/c he is with her. Well... I guess we'll find out.
