I’d be very curious to know the story. I guess Coach Troy, through his interviews, was still too classy to tell the full story. But someone has to know it.

Where is our local “investigative” media? Where is “The Current”? They claim to be investigative media for Acadiana, and they didn’t mind blasting athletics making it seem like our sports programs were the sole reason for the deficit. Seems to me they should be digging into this.

This University can and will ____ up almost anything to do with money....Troy makes a mistake, took responsibility for it, acknowledged the mistake, and after 40 years, he's shown the door...I have lost all respect I had for this university (MH) and athletic leadership. So tired of the entire group of idiots running MH and athletes. I'm done...

I will stay out of the for personal reasons, but I don't know how "classy" he is being by going on every available media outlet and discussing the situation, you can see is disgust every time you see or hear him on the radio and TV, it is somewhat passive aggressive the way he is doing it. He is doing a fine job of staying somewhat political, but you can tell he is angry about the situation and will discuss it at nauseum. I personally think if he was being classy, he would just let it go. I do believe he is the scapegoat in this situation, but he is also the one that was ultimately overseeing that department, and someone had to take the fall. I don't think that Troy did anything personally wrong in this situation, but I do believe that the fact that the money was coded incorrectly is an accounting issue that had to be addressed. I deal with this all the time on how we code expense reports and ultimately, I approve or reject every single one of my employees' expenses and when something is coded incorrectly, I have to send it back to them to redo. If it went above me and was incorrect, I would ultimately be held responsible.

fyi, I have seen multiple supervisors/managers fired for the exact same thing. Not that they coded expenses wrong, but they approved other people's expenses incorrectly. This is not just a UL thing; this happens all the time in the business world.

I've also seen it a few times. When businesses I've worked for were in cost cutting mode and people were losing jobs, businesses are looking for any small excuse they can have in letting someone go. When your old bosses are letting your department operate at a multi-million-dollar deficit and suddenly the old bosses are gone and the hallways at work are quiet, you need to be doing everything perfect.

Hate to see a seemingly permanent fixture in the athletic department go, but 40 years being around your lifelong passion is a great run.

Everyone keeps saying how big of a loss this is to Cajun football. But is it really? He has basically been a cheerleader and a party planner for the last several years. Guy spent 40 years with the program. Good for him. Time to hire a less expensive cheerleader and party planner.

I agree with a couple of posts above...when the nut cutting starts, "they" are looking for any plausible reason to justify reducing headcount. The O&G industry company's are masters of this process.

All of this financial malfeasance has pushed me 1 step closer to watching all sports in the comfort of my patio. I'm in for 26-27...but that may be the end for me, especially if softball, football and basketball continues it's downward spiral.
