There is a reason you can't just market Ragin' Cajuns

There is a reason you can't just market Ragin' Cajuns.

It has to be attached to "Louisiana" the brand.

A by product of just putting Ragin' Cajuns out there as the leading logo is equivalent to a kite without a tail.

Without the school connection Ragin Cajuns can be attached to anything like James Carville or LSU fans being called Ragin' Cajuns in the story linked.

Case in point in link below.

One of the biggest challenges in sports is the atmosphere in which athletes perform. What are college football's 10 toughest places to play?

It always angers me when the newscasters refer to the idiot James Carville as The Ragin Cajun. I do not and never want to be associated with that left wing lunatic. He is anything but a Ragin Cajun and is associated with LSU. At least he always seems to wear LSU gear. As you pointed out, newscasters have no idea that Ragin Cajuns is associated with UL. It has to be attached to LOUISIANA.

Louisiana needs to be the focus of all print media.

Unfortunately the administration even shys away from LOUISIANA.edu

That was certainly the position of T-Joe. We need to find out the position of our new President. Does anyone know?

Turbine is 100% correct. I have said this for decades. Our brand is LOUISIANA. It is the only thing that matters. Anything else is secondary. Does calling our team Ragin' Cajuns piss off our detractors? No. Does calling our team LOUISIANA make them hate? Yes. That tells you all you need to know.

Let me break this down clearly: every school in the ACC, Big Ten, and SEC has an official wordmark that identifies the institution. Whether or not that wordmark is used as the primary athletic logo, it still exists, is official, and appears across branding, uniforms, facilities, and merchandise.

                          That’s the key point:
Every major conference school has an identifying lettermark/wordmark logo
Some schools choose to feature a mascot, symbol, or lettermark as their primary athletic logo, but the institutional wordmark remains part of the official identity system.

To show this clearly, here are the schools in each conference whose branding systems include a wordmark even if their primary athletic logo is a mascot, lettermark, or symbol.

ACC Schools (All Have Official Wordmarks)

                          • Boston College
                          • Clemson
                          • Duke
                          • Florida State
                          • Georgia Tech
                          • Louisville
                          • Miami
                          • NC State
                          • North Carolina
                          • Pittsburgh
                          • Syracuse
                          • Virginia
                          • Virginia Tech
                          • Wake Forest

Even schools known for mascot logos like Clemson’s paw or Florida State’s spear still maintain formal “Clemson University” or “Florida State” wordmarks.

Big Ten Schools (All Have Official Wordmarks)

                          • Illinois
                          • Indiana
                          • Iowa
                          • Maryland
                          • Michigan
                          • Michigan State
                          • Minnesota
                          • Nebraska
                          • Northwestern
                          • Ohio State
                          • Penn State
                          • Purdue
                          • Rutgers
                          • Wisconsin

                          2024 additions:
                          • Oregon
                          • UCLA
                          • USC
                          • Washington

Even programs with iconic symbols (Michigan’s Block M, Iowa’s Tigerhawk, Oregon’s O) still have full institutional wordmarks.

SEC Schools (All Have Official Wordmarks)

                          • Alabama
                          • Arkansas
                          • Auburn
                          • Florida
                          • Georgia
                          • Kentucky
                          • LSU
                          • Mississippi State
                          • Missouri
                          • Ole Miss
                          • South Carolina
                          • Tennessee
                          • Texas A&M
                          • Vanderbilt
                          • Oklahoma
                          • Texas

Florida uses the Gator head as its primary mark but still has an “F” logo and a full “Florida” wordmark.
South Carolina uses the Gamecock but still uses the “SC” mark and a full wordmark.
Arkansas uses the Razorback but still maintains an “A” logo and institutional wordmark.

                          Examples

                          • Clemson → Paw as primary, but still uses the “Clemson” wordmark with the stylized C
                          • Florida Gator head primary, but still uses the “Florida” wordmark and the F logo
                          • South Carolina Gamecock primary, but “South Carolina” wordmark uses the SC identity
                          • Iowa Tigerhawk primary, but still uses the “I” logo and institutional wordmark

                          The Bottom Line

Every major conference school has an identifying wordmark.
Some simply choose to elevate a mascot or symbol as the primary athletic mark, but the wordmark remains a core part of the identity system and is used consistently across branding.

This is exactly why a school like Louisiana can still build a strong identity even if the primary logo is “Ragin’ Cajuns.” What matters is having a clear institutional identifier something that represents the school itself, not just the nickname.

Hopefully I do not have to show the logo for every school on the list. Hopefully yall understand my statement. All schools have a wordmark/letter mark logo They still have a wordmark/lettermark symbolizing the University.

That is over 50 schools that I have shown that have a lettermark logo that I
Do i need to go the full 130 Universities that have it?

Yall saying Louisiana is enough i am saying it is not, you need a logo that can be used with it. As long we do not have identification mark thar says UL or some form of it will be continued to be called UL-Lafayette or Lafayette outside Lafayette Parish.

So every University that I listed has one!!
