If we can't afford travel expenses for non-revenue sports in the Sun Belt, how could we possibly afford them in the PAC-12?👍 1Comment

All rivals would be eroded. No! SBC is a solid conference, we just need to re negotiate our TV Deal for the value of this conference which is way more than ESPN is paying us. 2030 is the year.Comment

We would still have 3-4 OOC games to schedule. If rivals are important to us and to our rivals, why couldn't we still schedule OOC games vs USM and Ark State? Texas State would be a conference scheduled game. What other key rivals do we have? ULM, Troy and USA are not key rivals and add nothing to our schedule or to the average fan's perception of our schedule.

UL is located in the middle of the country, so I would think traveling to the west or the east should be about equal.
Texas State was the 8th team added to the PAC 12. If they add any more teams, it will have to be 2 to keep things even. That could be UL and either Ark State, USM or LA Tech. I mention LA Tech because they were a favored member of the WAC with some of these schools. However, I don't think they would take 2 schools from LA and LA Tech is likely not interested in the PAC 12, especially since just joining the SBC. Ark State would be a good choice as USM is likely considered too far East. Don't know if they would have any interest anyway. Just spitballing.

I really wish we would drop this. The PAC does not want us, never did, it was just some dreaming on here nor does any others wanting to grow and prosper! What do we as a member bring? Budget deficit, poor attendance, poor traveling fan base, diamond sports somewhat dropping, basketball team still rebuilding yet questionable as far as competitive, aging fan base, lack of marketing, among other issues. We are where we are and where we will stay for the foreseeable future until we do a 360 in the issues mentioned above. Sorry but we are a regional team that can not even get our own regional fans to support us.👍 2Comment

You are not wrong in the rest of your post (the part I did not quote) but it was an Oregon fan who generated the graphic and suggestion.
To me that alone exposes UL administration for "never exploring" the last 25 years.
In not doing so, they created a "we're not worthy" "we know our place" no body wants us" "never did" "this is the best we can do" mindset with the fan base, and this alone has cost the program millions.
It is absolutely imperative that you always explore and entertain the potential.👍 2Comment

I am torn on this, and I will tell you why and I have stated this many times. The long-term upside could be much better than the short-term downside. The other issue is this, if the PAC wants a more eastern partner for their conference the will find one and guess what, the chances are it will be a member of the SBC that jumps at the chance, potentially a USM, USA, La Tech or Arkansas State and immediately that would weaken the SBC, so why not us. If the PAC wants it, someone will be willing to take the risks and while I love what the SBC gives us currently, the conference is not in a position to immediately lose any one team in the west and replace it with someone as good or better than what we currently have.
The short-term downside is cost and other factors including losing some really fun rivalries. But the long-term benefits could be much better than the short-term downsides, including bigger TV revenue, bigger exposure vs some named teams and ultimately positioning ourselves in a better place.
It would not be an immediate upside, but over time could benefit us in the long run. All this is factored on one thing......Does the PAC want to add someone to the east and are we on there radar, if not, this entire thing is a moot point.👍 1Comment

Unfortunately, due to our current budget issues thanks to previous Martin Hall critters, even if all those long term benefits are as you stated, I believe due to the short term, there is almost no change the University of Louisiana System leadership would approve such a move. The short-term downside is cost and other factors including losing some really fun rivalries. While there is no longer any viable path to a P4 conference, upward mobility exists in the AAC or PAC. Since football finances most of our athletic budgets shouldn't being in the highest competitive football conference possible become our first and foremost consideration? There's no apples to apples comparison but look at TCU's conference membership path after the SWC dissolved. TCU, an afterthought in the late 90s landed in the WAC then later to CUSA to MWC then slipped into the B12 on the strength of its football program. There is upside as a football only add to PAC. Where to park Olympic sports (could be multiple conf. affiliations) is something for our athletic dept executives are paid to figure out. Where there's a will there's a way. As for SBC football, outside of So. Miss & Ark St. its unexciting to me. But I realize others may relish being in the SBC long term no matter its membership.👍 1Comment

I love being in the SunBelt for what we have right now, because we could have easily decided to go to CUSA and be in that dumpster fire now.
