    NCAA Track & Field Championships

    Thirteen Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns track and field athletes were selected on Thursday to compete in the NCAA East First Round, scheduled for May 27-30 in Lexington, Ky.

    Three Sun Belt Conference event winners – Alaysha Veal (women’s high jump), Kimola Hines (women’s discus) and Reem Tammam (women’s triple jump) – will represent Louisiana, with Tammam also qualifying in the women’s long jump. They were joined on the women’s side by Emma Bacilla, who will compete in the women’s javelin

    The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Track and Field team saw one athlete qualify for nationals on Day 1 of the NCAA East First Round at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex as men’s javelin thrower Jemar Ferguson locked in a trip to Eugene, Oregon.

    Ferguson earned his spot in the June 10-13 NCAA Outdoor Championships by tossing his personal best of 66.29 meters (227-6) on his very first javelin throw attempt of the day. The sophomore from Kingston, Jamaica placed second in his flight and 11th overall, snagging one of the 12 spots for nationals awarded in Lexington.

      The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Track and Field team sent a pair of athletes from the women’s side out to compete during Day 2 of the NCAA East First Round on Thursday, May 28 at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex in Lexington, Kentucky.

      Senior Emma Bacilla made her second appearance in the NCAA regional round and first since 2023, competing in the javelin throw and recording a distance of 43.82 meters (143-9). Bascilla recorded her fifth throw of 40-plus meters this spring.

        The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Track and Field program concluded its stay at the NCAA East First Round at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex in Lexington, Kentucky on Saturday, May 30 sending out its final women’s team regional qualifiers on the fourth and final day of the event.

        The day started out in the field with graduate senior Kimola Hines participating in the discus throw. In her final collegiate event, Hines recorded a throw of 53.20 meters (174-6).

        With her fourth 50-plus meter throw of the spring, Hines placed 17th overall in the event – the highest finish out of her three career appearances in the NCAA East First Round
