For some, it was another not-so-surprising show in Hattiesburg

For many fans, worrying about how a program has competed against another program over five decades is is irrelevant.

As it turned out Saturday night at The Rock in Hattiesburg, the historical paranoia old-school UL fans were saddled with going into the matchup with Southern Miss is the only thing that made any sense at all after the Cajuns fell 35-31 to the Golden Eagles to fall to 2-25 all-time on that field.

"We didn't play well enough to win," UL coach Michael Desormeaux said. "Too many mental mistakes and critical errors."

6 years worth of evidence proves who he is. We don’t need more for Desormeaux to demonstrate mediocrity any longer.

We lived that for decades before. I’m really curious to see when, if ever our administration will strive for greatness. In both academics and athletics.

Not in my life time, maybe my kids/grandkids. I have witnessed 50+ years, we have squandered every opportunity we had.

This isn’t even the first season he has cost us games. He’s had a 10 win roster for 5 of his 6 years here.

I’ve seen how great the program can be in 2020 and 2021 and know they can reach that again. We just need the right people

Attaboy, you picked the Cajuns to lose camp. This piece should be in the P.O.S. Hall of Fame.

Hey Foot, how about some real analysis instead of "we knew we were gonna lose because we did in the 1940s". How about the three dropped first downs. How about repeated run calls that the whole stadium saw coming. The FG attempt that never was. D Line getting smoked, et al.

I wish Foote or someone in media would ask Des about giving up play calling.

I’d pay to read that response.

I’m starting to become really critical of Foote. Anytime i read something he posts about the Cajuns, i read it as if Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh is talking. “Bad start for the Cajuns. They lost the coin toss” “it’s not surprising we lost to a 1-5 team considering how hard they beat us in the 40s” it’s really getting old at this point. I want him to start asking tough questions instead of going “oh well it is what it is”
at least we’re safe from him making an article about us having a bad year on New Year’s because baseball did well.

Foote needs to call it what it is. This team should be 7-1 on the cusp of a Conference championship and a potential CFP bid. If Des would give up play calling and focus on being a HC, it would help. If he is unwilling to do, he needs to be fired. He has lost what little fan base we have left. When you go from top 25 teams and conference championships 2 years in a row and before that winning bowl game after bowl game, to this, it is unacceptable. It is clear Des does not have his teams ready to win rivalry games, bowl games, or any sniff of a championship.
Will the admin continue to accept this status quo of a mediocre coach that makes 1 million a year?

If I'm the administration, I would not just be evaluating the wins and losses aspect of this current staff but the overall state of the program which includes support from fans and donors. I will be the first to admit that I don't go to many home games any more although I watch every single one of them. But I went last week and I was stunned at how little energy there was in the tailgating areas and in the stadium even. There is nothing about this coach or even the staff that excites people to come out even with semi-new stadium and winning team.

It doesn't help to have to park out at CGI when half of available parking within the fence line is just sitting there but that's a gripe for a different day. I would have thought we'd have more excitement and energy surrounding this team but its just not there. Even in the club area, people are up there drinking and watching LSU more than watching the cajuns game. This program is just trending in the wrong direction and they better figure out quick how to save it.
