Once possible fix to today's college pay for play

I am not a fan of NIL. I hate what it has done to college sports. But I have a possible fix.

Since the P4's want to separate themselves from the rest of the NCAA sports, I say why not? Let the P4's have their own league. They can pay these semi pro league athletes whatever they deem to think is fair.

The G5's would go back to the pre-NIL days where a kid was given a scholarship to play for their university. No NIL money, just a stipend to help them have a life outside of sports, because we all know how much time a sport really does take out of their lives. So the kids who want a true education, but want to continue to play a game they truly love for a college they truly have pride in, let them come to the G5's.

I would imagine that (and I have no research to back me up) the graduation rate of post NIL college athletes has dropped by 60% or more. Again, just a hunch. So, college sports would go back to the days when it really was meaningful for kids to play for the fans (alumni) of school because they played for pride, not $$$.

Hopefully someday this will happen again....if the malls are making a comeback across the US, then why can't college sports do the same?

Read an lengthy article by Ross Dellenger on Yahoo Sports yesterday on this topic and how NCAA is banking on Congress to the rescue. Maybe. One person in a lesser P4 conference quoted said something like let the B10 & SEC breakaway from the NCAA. Not just football, go ahead separate in everything. No more NCAA MBB tournament, zero Olympic sports connection to NCAA. Just do it. There's a huge gulf when you look at their football and men's basketball roster building expense compared to most of ACC/B12/Big East much less G6. Maybe it all must break apart. I didn't used to think like that, but things have gotten way out of hand in only a few years time. Now the SEC/B10 might pick up brands like UNC, Kansas, Clemson, FL St., Virginia, Arizona, on way out the door further destablizing media revenue for everyone else, especially the left behind B12/ACC. The NCAA membership should act to help itself by voting for reducing the number of required sports by at least two regardless of whether or not a breakaway or Congressional emerges.

No more redshirts. You have 5 years of eligibility to play 5. One free transfer, the 2nd transfer you have to sit out a year. No more waivers for any reasons.

IF/When the P4 splits......they are also leaving the NCAA to form their own self managed division.

Once split....NONE of the NCAA 5 years max or 1 free transfer applies to them. They can recruit 24 hours a day at will from the NCAA level without any penalty. They can set the number of roster signings to any number they choose and hoard players as they so choose. With no NCAA oversight They can alter academic standards any way they please to keep players eligible or abolish standards completely. With no NCAA They could expand eligibility to 25 years.....compete head to head with NFL for players. Far fewer in P4 already leave early because of the multi million NIL payouts.

Lastly.......NIL started due to court rulings. NCAA can never put that rabbit back in the hat. NIL is literally law of land now.

Is this quote of 5 for 5 already inforce for all NCAA or is it just being proposed ?

I love the only 1 free transfer. You will still have many players leave for big payday. But they might think harder about leaving because if they have any kind of trouble breaking into starting lineup, they cannot just go back to another team without a cost of sitting out a year and losing their edge. This decision is magnified if they are freshman and underclassmen.
