It may be all sports chasing the dollars. Went looking for tonight's MLB AL championship game between Cleveland and Tampa Bay, and the Rays could clinch a trip to the WS. Not even on MLB, on HBO Max.
Even the WNBA is streaming their final on Peacock (the ONLY part I'd watch of that is the guys on Stadium Live Studios on their "bet" on "you know who" to brick her first shot). Of course SLS would be deep in the green for the season if it was real.
I can't find the article, but it regarded the end of the NCAA and P4 leagues all together. Universities will sell their media rights to networks, and the examples used were Ohio State and Michigan. The payouts would hypothetically double and in some cases triple what they get via conference distributions. Games like OSU/Michigan could be marketed and sold stand alone, cutting out the NCAA and conference members. More money to follow.
At some point, Mr. Mouse's wallet will dry up. The day is coming their brass will have to pick between affordability at theme parks or college football. That's when the real fun off the field will be worth watching.Comment

The NCAA and university presidents share most of the blame for trashing an American tradition older than pro sports. The NCAA could have settled the O'Bannon lawsuit a dozen years ago and set up real and fair NIL for athletes instead of winding up with this crazy free for all. I don't blame the athletes for wanting to make money. Making money is the normal American way for everything else. Anyway, there's no going back. Universities like UL must adapt a more aggressive athletics posture which it seems almost scared of sustained success. We have our moments then regress. Trying to remain optimistic we'll make the CFP someday. We just seem to be treading water at best.Comment
