Tough go as the 7 seed. Does 2 wins get us in the tournament? I’m guessing it will take 3 factoring in stolen bids.

Tough draw. Need to get through Marshall using as little pitching as possible. Don't think anyone that pitched significant innings this weekend (e.g. the 3 weekend starters and Pruitt?) should be called upon to pitch on short rest Tuesday. Too short rest, IMHO.
We need someone else to step up, including the bats.
Tollet? What's up with Victorian? Who do we go with here?
Tough decision. Dang sweep in San Marcos.
Cajuns at least need to make it to Saturday.
One game at a time.Comment

Every pitcher is different as far as recovery. You throw whoever gives you the best chance to win. No holding anyone back for another day that may not come.Tough draw. Won the series against Arkansas State, who didn’t make the tournament.
But yeah, that 3-10 stretch midseason was a killer. For SBC seeding and RPI would be really good with just splitting those games.
Great start, great finish…brutal mid-season stretch.Comment

I finally logged into the new site and have been involved here over 20 years as an early insider on Delphi. I try for quality and not quantity of remarks. I have been accused by good friends as sometimes being overly optimistic in my Cajun Fandom.
Its only fitting that I show the silver lining behind the cloud of losing another tiebreaker for the #6 seed and facing Marshall. Most fans understand the importance matching up our pitching rotation in the best way to win in Montgomery starting Tuesday. It is good that we have many possible options and combinations. I trust that Coach Deggs expertise and experience on offense and Coach Sandefur's expertise and expansive knowledge of both pitching staffs will rule the day Tuesday. This is especially helpful since our 2 teams have not faced each other this season. We have also won the series against most of better teams we will face.
Have a nice day, Cajun Pride👍 1Comment

Marshall Friday night guy, Bryce Blevins will probably be who we face and he is a pretty good one. He is 8-4 with a 4.59 era. 82 k to only 27 walks. He has a propensity to give up the long ball which has been his downfall. He averages 7 innings per start, they will leave him out a little longer than most teams because I don’t think they love there pen. The team era is north of 6 and they don’t have a real dominant arm in the bullpen. There best bullpen arms are all north of 5 era’s.
as a team they are hitting .280 and fielding .974. They are a good defensive club. Evan Battone is there best hitter and he is a good one with a .387 batting average. They only have one other hitter over .300. There power comes from a familiar name. Jackson halter has 11 home runs from the DH position. They only have 6 guys on there roster that have enough at bats to qualify for stats for the sunbelt list which leads me to believe that they have either had some injuries during the year or they play a number of platoon guys.
we have to get to Blevins early if we are to win. He gave up 3 solo home runs and 5 runs overall in 7 innings on 96 pitches Thursday night in his last start Vs Texas state.
there pen is suspect so we have to get to him.👍 1Comment

Victorian certainly came in with physical potential. His only appearance this season, he lasted 0.2 innings, where he walked 3, hit two batters, and threw 2 wild pitches. I hope during the offseason coaching can help him for next season, but you don't bring him in at this point of the season unless you're desperate.
Tollet, though...if we can get the dude who pitched from February 15 through March 15 back, that would be HUGE for us in this tournament.
Have to wonder if that Texas State game where he gave up 6 homers and 11 runs just hammered him mentally and it's still affecting him. Would love to see the young man be able to come in for us at some point this week (We'll need him if we're going to win more than two games) and have even just one complete shutdown inning. Rooting for him.Comment

One source told me that the mound at Tx St was a little different from others with the footing off the rubber at an odd angle. It added to JR's troubles on the mound. Also they have been working on some changes to his delivery that has apparently not helped. I can understand the shaken confidence from that game. Hopefully it is like hitting a couple of golf shots into a hazard and creates a funk and can be cured with a great shot or two. I think he gets a chance to redeem himself in the tournament which is like a new seasonComment
