    SBC NCAA Tournament Chances

In my opinion, the SBC has a reasonable chance of getting 3 teams in the NCAA Tournament this year. Marshall [27] and Texas State [30] have the two best RPI among schools not in the P4. I believe that barring a total collapse this weekend those two teams are locked in and that no other SBC team has a chance at an at large bid. Of the 10 teams in the SBC Championship Tournament, I am of the opinion that there is literally no team that cannot win; though I do believe that those teams who only have to win 3 games have a much better chance than seeds 7-10, who will have to win 4. Honestly, no team in the SBC has enough pitching to feel confident of winning 3 in a row, much less 4. If the Cajuns come in as a sixth seed, we would play the third seed [likely Texas State or USM] in our first game. Should things otherwise go chalk, we would get # 2 [likely ULM or Marshall], then # 1 [again likely ULM or Marshall]. To win three against that group is a tall order for our girls, but it IS doable. The conference will have at least two teams in, three if anyone other than Texas State or Marshall wins the Conference tournament.

Seems just three or four short weeks ago, we were talking about Cajuns softball not even making the conference tournament we're hosting this year, while thinking baseball making the tournament was probably a definite.

Now here we are, softball's got a spot, but baseball looks to be out if the season were to end today.

I would feel a lot better about the girls if we had beat McNeese and won all 3 against Marshall, but it is true that we are a lock to get into the tournament, regardless of what happens this weekend. We had our chances to go 4-0 last week against top 50 teams, but just couldn't finish in two of the games.

Sweeping a double header on the next Saturday up would be sweet.

2026 Softball Standings - Sun Belt Conference

          South Alabama is 12-10

          Louisiana is 10-12

We win two today, we get the tie breaker over South AL and we get the 6 seed and a Bye in our home SBC Tournament. Alot to play for today!

Getting two today will be tough, but it can be done. Win two today and will face Texas State in the second round. Losing one or two today will probably play App State or Coastal in the first round.
