Louisiana Tech scored a touchdown with 46 seconds remaining and held off a late rally to edge Louisiana, 32-31, in a Sun Belt Conference football game Saturday night at Origin Bank Field at Joe Aillet Stadium.
Louisiana (4-2, 1-1 SBC) built a 24-13 lead in the third quarter and led 31-19 with over 11 minutes remaining, but Louisiana Tech (3-2, 1-0 SBC) scored twice in the final 3:44 to rally before a crowd of 20,035.
Louisiana Tech quarterback Blake Baker connected with Eli Finley on a 7-yard touchdown pass for the go-ahead score to cap an eight-play, 66-yard drive.
Louisiana had one final opportunity, but Lunch Winfield was intercepted with 19 seconds remaining, allowing the Bulldogs to run out the clock.
Winfield completed 14 of 24 passes for 239 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 34 yards and a score. KeDarius Wade caught two passes for 88 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown reception that gave Louisiana a 31-19 advantage with 11:34 remaining.

RUSTON Things were looking so good for UL's chances of spoiling Louisiana Tech's Sun Belt debut early in the fourth quarter.
Lunch Winfield connected with KeDarius Wade on a 46-yard touchdown pass for a 31-19 lead with 11:34 left to play.
At that point, UL coach Michael Desormeaux faced a dilemma. There were several ways of his Ragin' Cajuns holding on for the victory, but none of them seemed all that easy to pull off.

During the Game Tech stopped our inside running most of the time. In the last two possession of the Game they knew we would try to run time off the clock. That is exactly what we did. Where was our tight ends in the offense. I guess they were used for blocking.Comment

Y'all love a parade, right? You know that group of grown-sss shriner dudes driving little bitty cars? We just got beat by those dudesComment

I keep going back to that. 1 missed tackle away from a double digit win. Even after that TD, just needed 1 first down. Couldn’t do it. Then 1 stop. Again, couldn’t do it. Then we lost by 1.
Up 12 with under 7 minutes to go and you have the ball, a lot has to go wrong for you and right for them. You saw it all unfold just that way on what was an awful steaming production.
The variety in the offense on our final 2 TDs was refreshing. It wasn’t all Lunch having to do it himself. But, when it came down to pressure situations, the offense folded. Our last 3 possessions, 9 plays - 7 yards and a pick.Comment

RUSTON The big question going into Saturday's Sun Belt showdown against Louisiana Tech was, could UL's defense hold up after the critical losses of linebacker Conor McPherson and safety Collin Jacob over the last two weeks.

Yet we still had an opportunity to win the game and Lunch missed 3 wide open receivers. Something ain't right with that. That 1st down wide open receiver was to the house if he hits him. This game is just so frustrating knowing clearly we should have won. Gotta wash it and come back strong. No other way. Yes it stings, but we still can win the West.Comment

well the vp of the game is the refs, the ___ty fumble call when lunch was already on his ass when the ball came out, the td by the tech qb while our lineman has an arm around his neck. the pi on the last drive which set tech up where both of them were going for the ball and the holding by tech on every play was the difference in this gameComment

Tech's QB was 32/42 for 319 yds and 3 td's. Lunch was 14/24 for 249 yds, 1 fumble and 2 interceptions and only 1 td. Our TE had only 1 catch. Play calling was atrocious. Defense wasn't any better giving up 485 total yds. Is DC Salgado the answer?

We had a lot of close games under Napier, but he was able to win those. Last night, JMU struggled against ODU who missed a game ending FG and Napier won yet another close one. Just the opposite under Des.
Dez is in year 2 of a 5 year contract, making $986,000 this year. Buyout, as indicated on internet, is $430,000 per year or $1,290,000 which could be paid out over multiple years. UL has had 3 losing years in a row, a bowl loss to Jax State in their first year in FBS, a 31-3 loss to Marshall in the SBC championship game and a 34-3 bowl loss to TCU, and a home loss to Rice to open our new stadium and bowl loss to Delaware in their first year in FBS. Now, a loss to LA Tech in their first year in the SBC. While revenue is critical with a significant athletic deficit, attendance is horrible and will only get worse with losses like last night, further adding to our deficit.
If UL lets Dez go, Jorge Munoz could replace him for the rest of this year. Salgado's defense sucked last night and is and has been suspect. Still, offense is more the problem and needs to be addressed.
Wait another week vs. a good Troy team. Lose to Troy at home and as far as fans go, the season is over. Watch what happens to attendance at that point. What will it take to salvage football and UL athletics? Hate to rail against one of our own, but sometimes things just don't work out. How long do we continue on this path?Comment
