How big was that performance? Pitched great. Hit throughout the game. 0 errors. And a Friday “Thursday” night win that was really needed.

Playing good ball when it matters. Similar to 2023 when we made it all the way to the championship game and snuck into an at large.

Updated standings, minus Georgia Southern-Southern Miss. Southern Miss leads 14-1 in the top of the 7th.

What has to happen for UL to earn an at large bid? Does a series win against coastal and a couple of conference tourney wins get them in?

I think the minimum we need is 2 wins in this series and 2 wins in the conference tournament and we have a chance, anything outside of that could be tough. If we get a sweep this series and have a good showing in the conference tournament I think at large is a high probability.

Right now, we have the highest RPI outside of USM and Coastal. That is the good news, the bad news is our seeding for the tournament is 5th, if it ended today. I would love to see us get to 4th, with only Troy ahead of us, Troy's record is not great, but they do hold the tiebreaker over us.

We need to hold on to the best RPI outside of USM and Coastal and have a minimum of a conference record of 16-14. A win tonight and our RPI could possibly move from 42 to 38. If we win both of the remaining games, we could potentially go into the conference tournament with an RPI of 35ish and 35 regular season wins. That is a good place to be. A few weeks ago we needed everything to workout for us to just make the SBC tournament, now some of the teams above us have faltered and we have gotten on a little bit of a hot streak.

Arkansas State has slipped to an RPI of 55 and they are 12-16 in the conference and in dire need of help to make the tournament as they are sitting currently in a tie for 10th place. Texas State is our real competition, but currently they are 14-14 and sitting in a tie for 7th with an RPI of 46, we need them to lose a game or 2 to Marshall. USA has slipped down to 63 RPI. Troy is at 16-12 in the conference and an RPI of 44, but their overall record is only 28-26. I think the SBC is 3 bid leagues, it will be tough to be a 4-bid league. Troy and Texas State are our best competition so pull for them to lose a little and for us to continue to win.

Man that was a great baseball game to attend last night. We were hitting on all cylinders. Can't wait for Game 2. Win one more and we are setup for an at large pretty darn good.

Last night shows what this team is capable of, even with 2 regular starters out of the lineup, the depth is nice. I want to give a huge shoutout to OWEN GALT. That dude was a starter last year and lost his position and really struggled when he got some opportunities, but he has been called on in the last two games he has come up big at the plate, but that play he made early in the game last night was pretty special, and this is a guy that has not always been known for his defense.

He is the definition of work while you wait.

There are a lot of variables in play at the moment. But something to watch is the Cajuns' Q1 record … which is nicely in their favor at the moment (7-9). However, four of those games (2 wins, 2 losses) are against teams that may fall out of Q1 status for the Cajuns (25-Coastal Carolina and 24-Missouri State) Since these are home games, these teams need to be in the RPI Top 25 to qualify as Q1 games. Arkansas State (2 wins) also needs to stay in the RPI Top 60. The Arkansas State win over South Alabama last night was good for several reasons.

The Cajuns have more Q1 wins than 13 teams that are ahead of them in the RPI rankings.

                              Herman on mound tonight

This is not the way Coastal thought this would play out.

Get a bigger crowd than last night and it'll be 2nd largest this season.

this is my thought too. A lot of stuff has us as one of the "Last 4 out" and that was prior to this series, so IMO for us to play our way into one of those last 4 in, series win here vs Coastal and a decent tourney showing will get us in. If we drop the next 2, barring something crazy we'd prlly need to win the tourney.
