Don’t write the program obituary for UL softball just yet

This weekend, the NCAA Division I Softball Tournament will begin with 16 Regionals around the country. For just the third time since 1990 (36 years ago), the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns will not be apart of one of those Regionals.

The Ragin’ Cajuns softball program was built into a powerhouse over the course of the last three decades. Within that time frame, they have made 33 Regionals, eight Super Regionals, and six Women’s College World Series. The program has also taken home 22 Sun Belt Titles since the year 2000.

The landscape of college softball has changed with NIL and the transfer portal. P4 conferences are now putting money and resources into softball, especially the SEC. I am hoping for a return to glory for UL but it will be tough.

It's over for softball just like every other sport.

I am not too hopeful given the coaching staff. There are some glaring issues that need to be addressed or it will be ballgame for the program.

AMF. Another Maggard Fail...not necessarily hiring AH, but letting a proud program slip like it has...GTF out of your office, hit the streets of Acadiana and start raising money for all UL Athletics...expand your roladex, include $ support amount that doesn't end with 4 zeros...

Dawson. Somehow you left out that Alyson was an assistant coach at an SEC powerhouse for 25 years, where, in 2012 she won a national championship. And, she was a big-time recruiter for that program. She has major contacts through all of the softball world. College, high school and travel ball.

Do you think she lost all of her knowledge and contacts because she spent one year away from coaching?

Actually Glasco's predicament, his first year, was pretty much the same as Alyson's. He lost Aleah Craighton, D J Sanders and Alyssa Denham.

Just a note. In Glasco's second year he went 52-6. In Alyson's second year she went 29-27.
